Un pintor, con muchos años en el oficio, lleva tiempo sumido en una crisis creativa. Desde que falleció de forma imprevista su mujer, que era todo para él, prácticamente no ha podido volver a pintar. En este estado recuerda, desde que muy jóvenes se conocieron, tanto los acontecimientos felices que le tuvieron tenazmente enamorado de ella durante toda su vida como la aparición, poco a poco, de una enfermedad que, sin nadie suponerlo, le condujo a una muerte inesperada a los 48 años de edad.

Estamos en el verano y otoño de 1975. La hija mayor de ambos está en la cárcel por sus actividades políticas, y es en esas fechas cuando surgen los primeros síntomas de la enfermedad de su madre que la hija vivirá desde dentro de la prisión. Es otro recuerdo permanente en la vida de su padre, que también ahora revive.
