Extraordinaria en el sentido estricto del término, La noche exhibe una frialdad clínica y la secreta convicción de que el cine es el instrumento de lo irrepetible. El director recorre la noche para protagonizar una maratón interminable de encuentros sexuales, ingesta de drogas, alcohol y amistades casuales, y así encontrar la diferencia en el flujo incesante de una rutina que funciona como refutación y conjuro de la vida ordinaria. Las imágenes de Castro ostentan un halo de verdad y belleza insospechada que asaltan al espectador con una fuerza que la mayor parte del cine existente deja de lado, acaso por pudor o por simple falta de coraje. La cámara pegada al cuerpo, el fuera de foco y el sonido ambiente forjan un viaje impiadoso cuyo destino podría ser el encuentro fugaz con los propios fantasmas, sin epifanías ni comentario moral alguno.
