¿Qué fue antes, Maceo Parker o el funk? Mientras los historiadores siguen pensando la respuesta, afortunados nosotros de recibir a un hombre sin el cual la evolución de la black music, el significado de la palabra groove o la exploración de las posibilidades del saxo en la música moderna no habrían sido las mismas.


Imponente curriculum el de este saxofonista pieza clave de la inigualable banda de James Brown durante los años 60 (con una serie de aportaciones que más tarde lo convertirían en el músico más sampleado de la historia del hip-hop); forjador, con George Clinton, del heterodoxo y visionario P-Funk; músico de sello inconfundible en giras históricas de Prince... Embarcado, desde inicios de la década de los 90, en una carrera brillante como solista que le ha llevado al templo de los festivales de jazz, en Newport, Maceo Parker continúa sacando todo el jugo a la vieja e infalible fórmula que todos conocemos: 2% de jazz, 98% de funky.
