En las montañas de Boavita, un pueblo campesino, conservador y católico de Colombia, vive la señorita María Luisa. Tiene 44 años y aunque nació siendo niño, se viste y se siente como una mujer. Solitaria y negada desde pequeña, María Luisa ha encontrado dentro de sí misma y en los pequeños gestos de solidaridad de su entorno, una fuerza inquebrantable.
