Una de las películas menos conocidas de Truffaut que adapta una novela policiaca centrada en la venganza de una joven viuda. El resultado es una maravillosa mezcla entre el suspense más clásico y la comedia negra.

Jeane Moreau vuelve a colaborar con el director parisino después de Jules y Jim, metiéndose en la piel de esta viuda transformada en toda una maestra de la venganza.
